Organizations and Businesses Invited To Apply For AED Grant

Self Regional Healthcare's Heart and Vascular Center has 10 AEDs available for local organizations and businesses through a grant application available through April 30 on selfregional.org.

Representatives from the Heart and Vascular Center (from left) Jennifer Clary, Cathy Sperry and Sheryl Burgess demonstrate how lightweight and portable an AED can be. Each unit, valued at about $2,000, has the power to save someone who is suffering from sudden onset of cardiac arrest.

The Self Regional Heart and Vascular Center is launching a community-based Automatic External Defibrillator, or AED, grant program. The program's goal is to increase awareness of what to do in a cardiac emergency, train more people on how to perform hands-only CPR and to equip various facilities in the Lakelands region with AEDs in case of an emergency.

For 2015, we have 10 AEDs available through our grant program. Self Regional encourages all types of organizations in the Lakelands region of South Carolina to apply, regardless of size or service. Submission of the application does not guarantee approval of an AED. Grant applications will be reviewed based on criteria that will be set forth by our AED program committee comprised of physicians, community liaisons, and members of our Heart and Vascular Center.

We would like to invite you to fill out an online grant application for your organization.

Applications will be accepted through May 8, 2015, and the approved recipients will be notified and invited to a special training session in June at Self Regional Medical Center. Only organizations or businesses located in the Lakelands region of SC (Greenwood, Laurens, Edgefield, Abbeville, McCormick, Saluda and Newberry counties) are eligible for the grant.
